What does it all meanI think six or eight of those men have a chance to be excellent general managers.

And this will be a plum job, a great job. In the last four decades, there have been three Giants’ general managers. George Young lorded over two Super Bowl winners, as did Jerry Reese. Accorsi presided over a consistent winner and an NFC champion. The GM will have the resources to succeed. That’s why so many men will be aggressively pursuing this job.

The team was playing its fourth game of the season at West Clermont Middle School when parents of the opposing team noticed what was on the jerseys.

The Kings Rec Basketball 7-12 team wore jerseys with the nickname “Wet Dream Team” on the front, and on the back of the jerseys, players had offensive terms such as “Knee Grow” and “Coon”.

A representative from the West Clermont team spoke with officials before the start of the second quarter and the game was called, according to Chris Mayhew of the Cincinnati Enquirer.

When former Giants head coach Ben McAdoo approached co-owner John Mara about a quarterback evaluation plan a few weeks back, Mara’s main criticism of the idea was McAdoo’s insistence on starting Eli Manning but benching him at the half.

If Mara had intervened, he said Monday, he would have asked McAdoo to make the cutoff less rigid. In Mara’s optimistic mind, Manning would have played well enough to make it impossible to sit him. After all, the goal was to win games.

A more free-flowing approach may have saved the Giants from the outpouring of fan vitriol, but now leaves them where they ended up this week—reportedly reversing the decision to bench Manning. While Mara insisted that interim head coach Steve Spagnuolo would have control over who starts under center for the team’s remaining four games, the cannon fire backlash on talk radio and social media over the past few days has all but ensured that fan security blanket Eli Manning will play out the string this season while rookie Davis Webb holds over into 2018 as a mystery for the team’s incoming general manager.

I was against benching Manning initially, in part because it demonstrated a lack of situational awareness by McAdoo and invited unnecessary heat onto an organization that didn’t realize how much equity it had lost to the fan base. But after the Band-Aid was pulled and the wound was displayed for all to see, smashing it back on with no adhesive seems like one of the worst, kowtowing decisions the franchise could make right now. For the first time since 2003, the Bengals next season will have a head coach not named Marvin Lewis.

The 59-year-old has decided to step down from the position after the 2017 season and move on to other opportunities, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Sunday.

How will Cincinnati officials attempt to replace the coach who had the second-longest tenure in the NFL behind Bill Belichick, following a second straight season without an AFC playoff berth?

Guenther, 46, has been Lewis’ right-hand man in terms of scheming one of the toughest, most consistent units when it’s healthy. He’s about due for his chance to run an entire team, and his promotion is the most likely outcome for an organization not known for doing anything radical. That said, Guenther can do a fine job and keep up the strengths of the team while they try to find better offensive solutions.

How hard would the Bengals go after the former Broncos head coach for his second chance away from Belichick? That’s the bigger question here, as McDaniels, still only 41 and a Canton, Ohio, native, would be exactly what Cincinnati needs to wake up its offense and catch up with the rest of the AFC powers who are pulling away from them — led by the rival Steelers. McDaniels has gotten the better of Mike Tomlin’s staff too many times for the Bengals to ignore.

He’ll be asked to do plenty of that against Clemson and whoever Alabama would play if it wins.

It’s certainly true that the excitement level and the intensity of the games take a big step up when the schedule moves from preseason to regular season. Well, there’s another quantum leap come playoff time, even for teams such as New England, which are used to postseason pressure. But the Patriots never get caught up in the happy-to-be-there mentality that can creep in for others.

49ers GM wants to sign Jimmy Garoppolo for ‘long, long time’

49ers GM John Lynch sounds like he’s already made up his mind about the team’s plans for quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo

“Look, we want Jimmy to be a Niner for a long, long time,” Lynch said. “That process is going to take place here. We’re eager to get that done, to have the opportunity. But I think one thing that we really believe is that those things should take place between us and his representatives and not occur and transpire in the public.

“And that’s the way we’re going to treat that. But you guys have our assurances and, the fans, too, that we’d like nothing more than to make him a Niner for long, long time.”

Garoppolo’s outstanding play for the 49ers undoubtedly earned him millions of extra dollars on his next contract, be it with the 49ers or another team. The 26-year-old QB, acquired from the Patriots on Oct. 31 for a second-round pick in 2018, averaged 308 yards in those five starts, with seven touchdowns and five interceptions. Going back to his two starts for the Patriots during Tom Brady’s suspension in 2016, he is 7-0 as a starting NFL quarterback.

Lewis, who will coach his 16th season with the Bengals in 2018, is the winningest coach in Bengals history with 125 career victories, which ranks 26th all-time in NFL history and fourth among active coaches.

“For me, that time is now. For 15 years I’ve been able to play quarterback in the NFL, and it’s been the most incredible experience in my life. There wasn’t one second that I took for granted or failed to appreciate what a tremendous privilege it is.”

The Bengals selected Palmer first overall in the 2003 NFL Draft after he’d won the Heisman Trophy at USC. Palmer then spent eight seasons with the Bengals before a short stint with the Raiders. In 2013, Palmer moved to Arizona to play his final five seasons with the Cardinals.

Although their intent may not have been malicious, it was fairly bad timing and left many of the 49ers players upset.

They’re also making sure that they don’t repeat the last-play, heartbreaking losses that defined that 0-4 start. Better to put a game out of reach than to let it stay in reach of the fates in the final seconds, as they did each of their first two games and three of their first four. (Not to mention their last two losses, to the Patriots and Jaguars, before their blowout of the Bills.)

“It was worse [than a strain], but I’m not going to get into detail about that. At the end of the day, we’ve got the Hawks, they play us good and see how I feel [on Tuesday] and if I pass all the tests that [Cavs trainers] Geo [George Sibel] and Steve [Spiro] want me to go through in order to be good to play, then I will play, and if I don’t pass, then I have to do more studying.”

Beathard suffered a leg injury in the final minutes of the 49ers’ 24-13 loss to the Seahawks, but instead of the usual silence from the crowd when a player is down, fans saw Garoppolo warming up on the sideline and began to cheer.

“Our starting [QB] got hurt and people are cheering before he even stands up,” safety Eric Reid said, per Mercury News. “That pisses me off. I’m disappointed in our fans. I understand the excitement about Jimmy, he’s a great player, but that’s not right.”

Linebacker Reuben Foster echoed the same feeling, saying the fans were unfair to Beathard, who was able to get up and walk off the field, regardless of how excited the crowd was to see Garoppolo play.

“First of all, I wanted to say our fans are better than that,” linebacker Reuben Foster said. “You wait until a guy gets up to cheer, not when a guy’s down. Then when he’ s up, you cheer.mariners_760

Antetokounmpo scores 37 points, Bucks beat Jazz 117-100

The game was already well in hand for the Milwaukee Bucks, but a thunderous dunk by Giannis Antetokounmpo in the final minute provided an exclamation point on a successful stretch of three home games in four days.

Antetokounmpo finished with 37 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists and the Bucks beat the Utah Jazz 117-100 on Saturday night for their third consecutive victory.

Milwaukee is five games over .500 for the first time since Feb. 28, 2015, and is off to its best start through 25 games since also starting 15-10 in the 2005-06 season.

“As a team, we’re growing up and understanding what it takes to win in this league,” Bucks coach Jason Kidd said. “It’s not easy. The week didn’t start off well for us (with a loss to Boston) but we ended it on a positive note. Now we turn the page to another week with another three in four.”

The Bucks built a 22-point lead early in the fourth and held on after the Jazz pulled within single digits.

Antetokounmpo scored 24 points in the second half, drawing chants of “MVP! MVP!” from the home crowd on multiple occasions. Khris Middleton and Eric Bledsoe each added 20 points.

“Coming out of the half, we talked here in the meeting, we said we got to finish this game and not give them chances,” Antetokounmpo said. “So that was what I was trying to do, and that is why I came out playing hard.”

Milwaukee led by as many as 16 points in the second quarter before Utah went on a 19-5 run to pull to 44-42 on a pair of free throws by Ricky Rubio with 1:50 until halftime.

The kid is dressed up as a Charger dressed up as a Greek god.

Bortles took a verbal jab at Jefferson’s situation by calling it “a little Ron Artest” action, referring to the former NBA player who famously went into the crowd as part of a 2004 brawl that included fans and players.

“Going into the stands probably isn’t too smart,” Bortles said.

Doctors performed emergency vascular surgery that night to repair a damaged artery in Miller’s left leg that stemmed from the knee dislocation. Miller remained hospitalized in New Orleans for eight days before being transported back to Chicago in a medevac jet.

Brady joined Instagram toward the end of last season, so this season’s images have been popping up there in addition to Facebook. Things started out fairly normal: Here’s a TB Times cover that hit after the Patriots’ win against the Chargers. It’s Halloween-themed, with Brady in a vampire costume (because he’s ageless, get it?) pretending to be afraid of a kid. Or something like that.

“Look, we need to get you going. Everybody wants you here helping us out,” Spagnuolo said he told the young cornerback, whom the Giants had high hopes for entering this season.

“But this wasn’t the week to do it. He didn’t get enough reps during the week. But he did get some on Friday. I just didn’t think it was enough to have him ready to do the things we were going to do with the defensive game plan.

“He understood that. The goal there, after we shook hands and hugged, was to get him up and running next week.”

The Kings also went scoreless in the game’s first 3:15 and found themselves down 17-2 early. They average only 23.0 points in the first 12 minutes and have been held below 20 nine times in their 26 first quarters.canadiens_010_22b1189f1c421dac-140x140

The Browns’ choice to fire Brown came at time where there have been many questionable moves from the front office.

A botched trade of Bengals quarterback AJ McCarron and Brown’s decision to trade down rather than draft franchise quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Deshaun Watson left questions as to what would happen next with the front office.

The Dolphins and Broncos have been stuck in limbo thanks to unsteady quarterback situations that have sunk their 2017 seasons. Each has had to turn to emergency additions to shore up a position that’s been derailed by injury, incompetence, or both. For Miami, it meant luring Jay Cutler out of retirement to be the league’s 25th-most efficient passer. In Denver, it meant bringing Osweiler into the fold to complete the league’s tallest passing corps.

These stopgap measures haven’t worked. Through 11 games, the two teams sit in the NFL’s bottom third, their playoff hopes all but crushed. The winner will keep its fractured playoff hopes alive with duct tape and curse words. The loser will continue its trajectory to a top-10 pick.

Added the GM about Sutton’s catching ability otherwise: “(He) doesn’t body-catch; gets the ball out there and without breaking stride. Don’t see that in many college receivers coming out. Can’t tell you how many guys come into workouts, into rookie camps, and they body catch everything. He does well getting open and he adjusts well with his body for balls behind him and difficult to catch. His hands are quick, I like that a lot. When he adjusts, he doesn’t alter his stride much. That accounts for his YAC.

“I think he’s raw. You can work on some of the technique. I think he won’t have as much space in the league; things are tighter. But he does some things well that translate.”mariners_776
